Lost Time

As you can see, I am not very good at updating, I also noticed that I only posted one blog post since beginning this...
Last season got busy and I had a very demanding job at the time so I lost track of updating anything at all. But guess what? Here I am, back at it, with a new marching season on the horizon, so I am making up for the lost time. It will be Connor's third year as a marching band director for Bridge City and I am excited to see what this year holds for the kids as it is a "state year" for them. Meaning we have the opportunity to advance to the state marching contest. AND the kids are getting brand spankin' new uniforms for this upcoming season as well. EXCITING? I know. ONE MORE THING, our best friend, Trent, will be student teaching in the music program for BC this season as well! What an exciting season it has already planned out to be. I certainly cannot wait!
A lot has happend since I last posted my first ever & only post to this blog. Hurricane Harvey hit our area on August 29th, 2017, which was only two weeks after school had begun. It took a toll and effected a lot of kiddos in the program, it also delayed our marching season by A LOT. We cancelled several UIL appearances, including our Battle at the Bridges contest, due to this storm and preparedness and it seemed like it was going to be a very short season for the kids. But they did not let that affect their practice and performance, they marched on. We went to a Marching Contest at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA, on October 28th, which was brutally cold. The kids did awesome at this.. I asked Connor how we did just now and he doesn't remember that far back, but I know they played well and got something from it! Haha. Then the next week the band participated in the UIL Contest at Port Neches-Groves High School, I do know for a fact, we got straight 1's at that contest! They played their heart and souls out for this show and did so well, they were definitely awarded for it too. Although the season was short, and the football team did not win a lot of games, these kids still managed to make a good time out of it, especially the seniors. It was a short but great season! Harvey did not bring us down! I was at both the McNeese Contest and the UIL Contest at PN-G. I always strive to make it to everything so I can help, cheer the kids on & support my husband as he does his thing. Here are some pictures I took from our 2017 season...

Aside from band things, we celebrated some milestones and had some interesting weather in our little town.. We celebrated a year being in our little house that we love so much! And on June 11, we celebrated 2 years of marriage. WOAH.

Back in December we got some snow, which, if you know Souteast Texas, it doesn't get much of that. It was just crazy since a hurricane had come through four months before this!

In the spring semester, Connor had the priviledge of getting to work with his best friend (& his one of his best men in our wedding) Randall, he definitely loved that because he was the only man in the group of all women band directors and he got to hang out with his buddy! It was so nice to see them hang out and work together! I know they had a great time, too.

We ended Connor's second year with the annual Spring Concert and, of course, the band banquet. The kids did amazing at the concert, as always. I love seeing all their hardwork being shown during their performances and seeing the excitement in their job well done when they finish. I always love to document these times with Connor because it really is a treat to get to be his wife and support him in everything he does. Plus, our drum captains mom, thinks we are so adorable together :)

This band banquet was quite emotional for me, as a lot of the seniors I had grown to love were graduating this year. I did not get a picture with all of them like I had wanted to do, but I looked like hot mess that night anyway...I think I changed outfits like 10 times before we left the house. Haha! What can I say? I am a woman, and I can never decide or I never have anything to wear.

My Babies! I will miss them so much next year! I don't know about you but even though these are Connor's former students now, I feel like they are my own children, hints why the kids call me "Momma B-Ross". I ugly cried a few times at this banquet, but, I know they will go out and do incredible things! They are smart kids!
Well, that about wraps it up for this second year being a band director wife, I will be better with my updates. Especially since band camp starts on July 18th! Look out, the third year is approaching, and I could not be more excited!
Until next time,
The Band Director Wife
