A Frequently Asked Question...

This is the most frequently asked question I get asked as a still, "fresh & young" band director wife. And I answer it differently every time, because I feel like it is a different mood every time, sometimes I joke about it and sometimes I am dead serious about it.
I'll give you my answer, because I am too proud of a band director wife not to give one. So here it goes...a blog length, totally worth it, answer.
When I first found out the career path Connor wanted to take, I didn't really feel surprised. He has always been a music junkie, better yet, a drum junkie. We were just in the early stages of dating and getting to know each other better. I did not even think a thing of what the outcome would be in the future, so I did what any good girlfriend would do and supported him! I did my best to make sure I scheduled my trips to see him during football season all throughout his college career so I could go to the football games and watch him play. I also wanted to be there beforehand to just hang out with him and watch the drumline practice. I have so many pictures & videos of this guy playing and I love going back and watching them from time to time!
As our wedding day approached, we started really talking about his career, because he was fresh out of college and job interviews were on the horizon. As interviews came and went I thought about what life would be like when he started out and I just couldn't really know until he actually had his first job. When that finally came along I just got excited!
So you asked if I enjoy the band life? Yes! I surely do! I will be honest, it can be hard, the hours are unpredictable, but I am usually right by his side supporting him. Summer band camp, I'll show up just to watch when I can... band camp at ETBE, I am there all weekend long supporting him and the kids -- getting super excited for the season ahead! I try to attend after school rehearsal too, I love to sit and watch everyone work hard for Friday night games and upcoming marching contests. Then there is Friday night games and Marching Contests, 99.9% of the time I am there and I support and help as much as I can. Why do you think the kids call me "Momma B-Ross"? HAHA!
Here is the honesty approach, and it is raw. It can definitely get hard, it's the time of year I don't really get to spend time with each other, our date nights are almost nonexistent because time is so thinned out, we barely get to talk at night because we come home exhausted, so we eat, sleep and repeat the next day, and our weekends are filled with band. But you know what? In the midst of all the chaos, I would not trade it for the world. Even though our time is limited throughout the week and some weekends, we are still the same ole B-Ross couple. He always makes an effort during a football game or contest to stop and tell me that he is happy I am there with him and is grateful I come with him and show my support for him and the band program. Our life gets busy from July to November, but you know, I would not have it any other way, because there are those little moments in that chaos where we make time to spend time together even though we are tired and want to rest. That is something I really cherish and value about our relationship especially when our lives get a little chaotic.
Being a band director wife has been an absolute blessing, especially when your husband rocks at what he does daily! It is fun to be behind the scenes and see what goes on when they aren't in front of a huge crowd of people marching. I get to see the adrenaline kick in before they perform their show. But, I won't go any further into that, because that is for another time! I hope I answered your question on what my feeling is about living this life, because I really would not have it any other way. It is his third year and I am excited to see what this year holds for him at this point in his band director career, and you better believe I'll be there with him, I'll be the one with the band director wife shirt, watching, taking pictures/video of the show and cheering! It's a grand ole time to be the band directors wife, supporting and loving this life with my guy!
Until next time!
The Band Director Wife
